The Idaho paycheck calculator uses the selected published table and rounds its computed state withholding per check to the nearest whole dollar. Under the July 23, 2026 revised table, the Idaho child-tax-credit allowance value is zero. Changing the count alone therefore does not reduce that revised-table calculation, while extra withholding still adds dollars to each check.
Idaho review: October 29, 2026 · The tool provides 2025 and 2026. Our case follows the July 2026 revised table, ordinary wages, one employer, Idaho residence and work, and twenty-four equal semimonthly payments.
Use the Idaho Paycheck Calculator with the actual table revision and certificate settings being reviewed. This guide follows $79,200 annual wages through the annualized method and explains why the result can have whole-dollar state tax even when federal withholding includes cents.
Why does the calculator ask for a table revision?
The Idaho table dated July 23, 2026 has an annual Single threshold of $16,100 and a Married threshold of $32,200, with 5.3% withholding above the relevant threshold. The state group in the calculator should match the recorded Idaho election.
The tool also offers a preceding published table for earlier payroll comparisons. A year selection alone cannot identify every change an employer made during that year. Record the revision along with the wage amount, status and pay schedule.
The Tax Commission's computing guidance tells employers to use a newly issued table going forward, without redoing withholding back to the start of the year. Accordingly, selecting revised here should not be treated as an instruction to retroactively recalculate actual earlier checks.
The calculator applies one chosen revision across its full-year projection. Its annual total is useful as a stated scenario, but actual year-to-date withholding may span different tables, certificates or wage amounts. Reconstruct that history from actual payroll records rather than assuming the projected total is an annual true-up.
The worked case below uses the annual-table method. Published payroll-period percentage tables have their own rounded thresholds; avoid switching between those approaches midway through an exact-cent reconciliation.
Why does the allowance count have no effect in the revised case?
The Tax Commission explains that Idaho's child tax credit has sunset and the corresponding withholding allowance amount is zero. The calculator's revised table therefore assigns a zero dollar value to each allowance count supplied.
For example, zero allowances multiply by $0 to give a $0 wage reduction. Three allowances also multiply by $0 to give a $0 reduction. That statement describes this revision's calculation; it does not establish the correct certificate claims for an employee or describe earlier tables.
The count is retained because the tool can also compare preceding revisions with their own published values. Do not bring an older per-allowance dollar amount into the revised table merely because the field remains visible.
Federal W-4 annual credits are separate dollar entries and are not automatically erased by an Idaho table change. Use the actual federal certificate and household facts; the W-4 guide explains that form's preparation. This state calculation does not determine eligibility for a federal credit.
How does the original Idaho withholding become $139 per check?
Assume $79,200 annual gross wages and twenty-four equal $3,300 semimonthly checks in 2026. Select the revised table, the Idaho Single group, zero supplied allowances and no additional state withholding.
The annualized state amount above the table threshold is $79,200 − $16,100 = $63,100. Multiplying by 5.3% gives $3,344.30. Dividing by 24 gives $139.345833… before the annualized method's whole-dollar paycheck rounding.
| State calculation stage | Amount |
|---|---|
| Annualized wages | $79,200.00 |
| Revised annual zero-rate threshold | $16,100.00 |
| Amount above the threshold | $63,100.00 |
| Annual table amount at 5.3% | $3,344.30 |
| Divide by 24, before rounding | $139.345833… |
| Computed state withholding, nearest whole dollar | $139.00 |
| Sum of 24 rounded deductions | $3,336.00 |
The calculator uses $139 on each check, not $139.35. The $8.30 difference between the $3,344.30 annual table expression and the $3,336 payroll sum results from repeating whole-dollar-rounded check amounts. It is not a missing allowance, an additional fee or a statement about the final return balance.
Keep the stages distinct when investigating a mismatch: annual table amount, unrounded period amount, rounded state deduction and sum of deductions. A correct annual rate alone does not show whether the paycheck rounding was applied correctly.

What remains from the original $3,300 payment?
Use federal Single without Step 2 and set all optional federal adjustments to zero. No local withholding or other after-tax deductions are entered. Assume ordinary covered wages and no benefit exclusions, with gross equal to the federal, FICA and state wage bases.
| Pay component | Each payment | 24-payment total |
|---|---|---|
| Gross wages | $3,300.00 | $79,200.00 |
| Federal withholding | $358.08 | $8,593.92 |
| Idaho withholding | $139.00 | $3,336.00 |
| Employee Social Security | $204.60 | $4,910.40 |
| Employee Medicare | $47.85 | $1,148.40 |
| Pay after listed deductions | $2,550.47 | $61,211.28 |
The payment reconciles as $3,300 − $358.08 − $139 − $204.60 − $47.85 = $2,550.47. The live calculator agrees with independently checked arithmetic. Additional actual payroll items can change the deposit.
Federal withholding follows its own worksheet and cent rounding, explained in the federal calculator guide. Do not round the federal deduction to whole dollars solely because the Idaho annualized method uses that convention.
What changes with three allowances or an extra $8?
First, change only the supplied Idaho allowance count from zero to three while retaining the July 2026 revised table. The allowance reduction remains zero. State withholding stays $139, and pay after listed deductions remains $2,550.47 per check.
For a separate comparison, restore zero allowances and enter $8 extra state withholding per payment. The calculator adds the elected extra after the $139 computed state amount, producing $147 Idaho withholding each check.
Modeled net becomes $2,542.47 per check and $61,019.28 for the year. The extra annual withholding is $8 × 24 = $192. This comparison demonstrates a repeated dollar input; it does not establish that $8 is suitable for the household.
Use the actual certificate and a broader tax review for any real adjustment. A larger withholding amount increases prepayment, while a smaller withholding amount does not automatically reduce final income tax.

Which schedule and units must match the payroll record?
Semimonthly means twice monthly and uses 24 payments here. Biweekly means every two weeks and uses 26. Choosing the wrong schedule changes the wage per payment, the rounding pattern and how often an additional amount repeats.
The wage field is annual gross dollars. The federal credit, other-income and deduction fields are also annual dollar adjustments. Extra federal or Idaho withholding is per-payment money. The Idaho allowance field is a count whose dollar value depends on the selected revision.
Known local withholding and other deductions are annual after-tax amounts. They reduce pay without changing wage bases. Entering a pre-tax benefit there does not calculate its correct federal, FICA or state classification.
For a midyear certificate change, identify actual withholding to date and remaining payments separately. The calculator does not infer prior elections, reconstruct previous tables or determine a refund from the current settings alone.
What else can explain a difference from an actual check?
Start with the table revision, method, status, taxable wage basis and whole-dollar state rounding. Then compare any recorded extra amount and the independent federal elections. A different actual employer method should be reconciled on its own terms.
This version lists no automatic separate Idaho employee contribution program. Actual employer benefits and other deductions still require review. A zero supplied amount is not a determination that every real item is absent.
The model assumes full-year wages with one employer, residence and work in Idaho, no pre-tax benefit classification and equal scheduled pay. Supplemental wages, multiple employers, interstate work, special exemptions and irregular pay can require different treatment.
At higher annual wages, the Social Security wage-base guide and Medicare additional-withholding explanation help identify federal changes during the year. An average projected check may differ from the actual check where a threshold is crossed.
The estimate is free and does not update an employer's certificate or establish earnings. Any separately prepared pay statement should use genuine payroll records.
Idaho calculator questions
Why didn't three allowances reduce the revised estimate?
The July 2026 revision assigns zero value to the corresponding child-tax-credit allowance.
Why is the state tax $139 rather than $139.35?
The annualized method rounds computed paycheck withholding to whole dollars.
Should revised tables redo every earlier paycheck?
The Tax Commission directs employers to apply new tables going forward.
Does the zero state allowance value remove federal credits?
No. Federal elections are separate and require their own actual eligibility review.
Is an extra $8 annual?
It repeats per payment; 24 payments add $192.
The Check Stubs Online Editorial Team reviewed Idaho's dated table and computing guidance and independently reconciled three original live scenarios. The base revised-table case leaves $2,550.47 per semimonthly payment after the listed deductions.
