Prepare a 2025 Schedule F PDF by selecting the farm’s established accounting method and entering supported farm-income and expense amounts. The builder includes the original two pages, cash or accrual entries and reviewed loss controls. It does not choose an accounting method, establish every deduction or submit the farm’s tax return.
Reviewed October 29, 2026 · Final 2025 Schedule F supported by the live builder. The vegetable-farm example is fictional and assumes its classifications and deductible amounts have been independently established.
The Schedule F PDF builder is useful when the farm’s records have already been reconciled. This walkthrough explains which information belongs in its sections, why purchased resale goods need distinct treatment and which supporting decisions remain outside the document order.
Does the activity belong on Schedule F?
Schedule F reports profit or loss from a farming business. The IRS overview of Schedule F identifies its purpose; it is not a general form for every service performed on agricultural land.
For example, principally providing agricultural services, managing someone else’s farm for a fee, or breeding pets can require Schedule C instead. Sales of livestock held for breeding, dairy, draft or sporting purposes have another reporting route, generally Form 4797. The classification warnings on the 2025 original schedule make these distinctions explicit.
A farm’s incidental custom-hire machine-work income can appear in its farming records without making a separate principally service-based business a farm for reporting purposes. Identify the actual activity first. Our Schedule C builder walkthrough covers the separate nonfarm business schedule.
Use one schedule for each farming business. The product currently enables 2025 and marks 2026 as unavailable. An election affecting next year’s income does not turn a 2025 document order into a 2026 form.
What should be settled before entering farm totals?
Match the farm activity, agricultural code and taxpayer details to the underlying return. Select the principal agricultural activity from the provided codes rather than choosing whichever label produces a convenient result. A vegetable operation, for example, should not be classified as livestock solely because a small side activity involves animals.
The builder distinguishes individual returns, Form 1040-SS, and applicable estate, trust or partnership returns. Follow its identifier guidance for that return type. It specifically flags the lines skipped for Form 1040-SS. Do not substitute a person’s identifier for an entity’s required EIN.
The accounting-method choice follows the farm’s permitted, consistently maintained method. Cash and accrual are not interchangeable display styles. Under the cash method, receipt and payment timing matter, subject to specific exceptions; accrual reporting also considers earned amounts and the applicable inventory work. Publication 225, Farmer’s Tax Guide explains these methods and the rules for changes.
Prepare a reconciliation worksheet before using the tool. Give each source entry a record reference, year, gross amount, taxable amount where different, and destination line. For expenses, note whether the amount is already in resale cost or inventory. This small working index makes duplicate entries and unsupported totals easier to spot in the preview.

How do the cash, accrual and special-payment entries differ?
For cash-method reporting, the tool separates products raised by the farm from items purchased for resale. A resale item's reviewed cost belongs with its resale calculation; it should not also be deducted as a second expense merely because the purchase was paid from the farm bank account.
| Builder area | Information to establish | Review question |
|---|---|---|
| Cash-method resale entries | Sales and related cost/basis for the applicable purchased items. | Has that cost been counted exactly once? |
| Raised products | Reportable sales of the farm’s own products. | Are raised-product receipts separate from resale gross proceeds? |
| Cooperative and program payments | Source totals and the reviewed taxable portion where different. | Does the input reflect the source statement and applicable treatment? |
| Accrual income and inventory | The relevant sales, beginning inventory, purchases and ending inventory. | Is the valuation method consistent with the farm’s established records? |
| Crop insurance and disaster proceeds | Receipt-year figures, taxable amounts and any properly elected deferral. | Are the eligibility review and election statement complete? |
The accrual section is on Page 2. Its result transfers to Line 9 on Page 1; do not add the same receipts again in cash-method income. The inventory choices include cost, lower of cost or market, unit-livestock-price and farm-price methods. The original has a specific calculation when the latter two methods produce ending inventory above the available inventory amount. Review the actual method, not just a negative subtotal.
For CCC loans, the product requests confirmation of the relevant section 77 election before using the election-specific field. A cooperative or agricultural payment’s total received need not equal its taxable amount. Keep the reason for a difference with the supporting documents.
Crop-proceeds deferral requires particular facts, not simply a preference to report later. Eligibility includes the cash method, receipt in the damage year and the required normal-business-practice test; some policy payments do not qualify. The 2025 Schedule F instructions and Publication 225 explain the conditions. The builder’s checkbox does not create the separately required statement. Keep any nonqualifying current taxable amount and prior-year deferred receipts distinct.
What does a reconciled farm example look like?
Assume a fictional vegetable farm uses a permitted cash method for 2025. Its owner materially participates, all investment is at risk, and there are no prior limited losses, special elections, capitalization reductions or other adjustments affecting this case. Every amount below has been reviewed as reportable or currently deductible; the example does not establish that treatment for a different farm.
The farm receives $76,000 for produce it raised, sells purchased resale produce for $13,500 with an $8,400 related cost, and earns $2,400 from incidental custom-hire machine work. There are no other farm-income items. Its reviewed expenses total $48,500, as shown below.
| Entry or calculation | Amount | Meaning in this illustration |
|---|---|---|
| Raised-produce sales | $76,000 | Separate from purchased resale goods. |
| Resale proceeds less related cost | $5,100 | $13,500 − $8,400. |
| Incidental machine-work income | $2,400 | Assumed reportable farm custom-hire income. |
| Gross farm income | $83,500 | $76,000 + $5,100 + $2,400. |
| Seeds; fertilizer; chemicals | $12,400 | $6,200 + $4,300 + $1,900. |
| Fuel; repairs; supplies; utilities | $7,700 | $2,800 + $2,100 + $1,600 + $1,200. |
| Land rent; insurance | $11,600 | $9,800 + $1,800. |
| Reviewed depreciation allowance | $7,200 | Assumed result of separate asset calculations. |
| Reviewed hired labor | $9,600 | Assumed deductible amount after relevant credits. |
| Total stated expenses | $48,500 | Excludes the $8,400 already used in resale cost. |
| Assumed farm profit | $35,000 | $83,500 − $48,500. |
Enter each expense in its specific category, even where this teaching table groups several for readability. For example, the combined $7,700 line is not one miscellaneous expense: the underlying records still identify fuel, repairs, supplies and utilities separately.
The $7,200 depreciation amount is an assumed allowed figure, not the purchase price of an asset or a promise of an immediate write-off. The $35,000 profit is also not the owner’s final federal tax or a claim that no other return calculation applies.

Which expense decisions need separate support?
The form’s category list does not establish deductibility. Exclude personal costs, separate capital assets from current expenses, and allocate mixed-use items before entering amounts. Prepaid supplies, conservation expenses, interest and depreciation can require additional analysis rather than deduction of every payment in full.
The tool includes verification controls for eligible vehicle costs, conservation deductions and depreciation/section 179 amounts. When required, prepare the separate Form 4562 and retain the asset and business-use records. Do not infer eligibility for an accelerated deduction from the presence of a depreciation box.
Section 263A capitalization has a particular display in this builder: the reviewed reduction is shown as a parenthesized amount on Line 32f with its designation. It reduces expenses already entered. Subtracting the same amount from those categories first and again on Line 32f would produce a duplicate reduction. Confirm whether capitalization applies before using this control.
Also answer the information-return questions from actual payment and worker-classification records. A Schedule F expense entry does not prepare the related worker or payee documents. The 1099-NEC preparation guide explains a separate nonemployee-payment document; it does not decide whether a particular farm worker is an employee.
What if the worksheet produces a loss?
The unrestricted subtraction result may differ from the currently allowed loss. The builder requests the at-risk selection, review confirmations and an allowed-loss input where applicable. Released prior-year amounts need to be included only as established by the separate limitation work.
Form 6198 addresses at-risk limitations. The applicable passive-activity calculation can require Form 8582. Noncorporate taxpayers also need to consider the separate excess-business-loss rules and Form 461. These reviews are not replaced by the farming schedule’s arithmetic.
When a loss is fully suspended, the tool directs a zero allowed-loss input. If a separately completed calculation allows only part, enter its reviewed result rather than the full current loss. Keep a carryover record explaining the remainder, its limitation category and any later release; the PDF alone is not that history.
What should be checked in the final two-page PDF?
Compare the preview with the reconciliation worksheet source by source. Check the year, return type, identifiers, agricultural code and accounting method before checking the totals. Then confirm the cash/accrual route, taxable portions, resale-cost treatment and every deduction or reduction.
Both original pages are included even when the chosen method leaves part of a page unused. Preserve the original structure rather than interpreting unused whitespace as missing entries. Check that any special election, loss form, depreciation schedule or other required attachment has actually been prepared separately.
Schedule F has no independent signature line. Its filing destination, actual signatures and other return requirements follow the underlying return. For an individual filer, our Form 1040 builder guide helps distinguish main-return preparation from its supporting schedules.
Confirm the live price and complete document preview before an order. Blank IRS originals are available directly without purchasing this service. Downloading the completed PDF does not send it to the IRS, make tax payments or complete payroll and information-return obligations.
Schedule F builder questions
Can I use the tool for a 2026 farm schedule?
The reviewed product enables the final 2025 edition and disables 2026. Recheck availability and the official year before preparing a different reporting period.
Should purchased resale produce also be included in supplies?
Not when that same amount has already entered the resale-cost calculation. Keep the reviewed resale basis separate from the farm’s other expense categories.
Does selecting accrual change the farm’s accounting method?
No. Select the method that the farm is permitted to use and has established in its records. An accounting-method change may involve requirements outside this PDF builder.
Does checking crop deferral prepare the election statement?
No. Establish eligibility and prepare the required statement separately. Keep nonqualifying proceeds and previously deferred receipts in their proper reporting year.
Is the example’s $35,000 the owner’s take-home income?
No. It is the assumed farming profit from the stated records. Other taxes, deductions, distributions, loan payments and cash movements are outside that arithmetic.
Does an order include the main return and attachments?
The order covers the supported original Schedule F pages. The underlying return, required supporting forms, elections, submission and payments need separate completion.
The Check Stubs Online Editorial Team checked the live farm builder and cited IRS materials. The fictional case reconciles $13,500 − $8,400 = $5,100; $76,000 + $5,100 + $2,400 = $83,500; and $83,500 − $48,500 = $35,000. Its reviewed deductions and reporting classifications are explicit assumptions.
